 Graham Hilgendorf
Graham
has been performing as a musician since he was 13 years old. He
has studied many different percussion instruments and styles of music from all over the world and has a Bachelor of Music
Degree (performance) from The Sydney Conservatorium of Music. As a founding member of Sydney percussion ensemble B’tutta,
Graham has travelled extensively throughout Australia and South East Asia performing in the Bangkok International Arts Festival,
Womadelaide, and played over 2000 schools performances for Musica Viva Australia. He has performed with Synergy percussion
ensemble and is presently a board member of Synergy Percussion Inc. Around Sydney he freelances as a percussionist and drum
kit player, performing with the Dan Barnett band, The Flying Fruit Fly Circus, and various other major ensembles. Since
1998 Graham has spent much of his time studying and performing Wadaiko, the traditional Japanese drumming art form. He is
a performing member and composer for the Sydney based taiko group, Taikoz, which has performed with the major symphony orchestras
in Australia and has travelled in Japan performing with master taiko player Eitetsu Hayashi and Kodo, the heartbeat drummers
of Japan. Graham spent most of 2005 living, studying and playing
in Japan. He had the opportunity to study under Wakayama-ryu leader and master of the O-Edobayashi style, Kyosuke Suzuki.
An interest in the traditional Hachijyo style of taiko playing took him to Hachijo Island for further study with Takashi Kikuchi.
